Show More Big Potash Finds on Swasey Some time ago we made mention men-tion of the fact that the Slaughter Slaugh-ter boys had made discovery of some valuable potash claims on Swazey mountains. Other parties prospecting in the vicinity havemade other finds, and the findings have been consolidated and a company formed to promote the potash industry. Assays on these findings have run all the way from 2' to 10S , and the company is now working to place the property on a commercial com-mercial basis. In an interesting conversation with Mr. . Slaughter, recently, we learned that he is now exploiting ex-ploiting a new field of potash. He stated that the new field is an immense flat, and that the potash deposit is at least eight feet deep, testing 5" potash, and soluble in water. The exact ex-act depth of this deposit is not known, as no measurements deeper than eight feet have yet been taken. Mr. Slaughter tells us that on the west slope of the mountains there are great clilt's, many of them 2000 ft. in height, apparent ly caused by the breaking or sloughing off of the mountain, and that in these cliffs there are enormous eaves formed by the action of water. These caves were, supposedly, once filled with potash, which was carried off by the water, and deposited on the bottom of a lake bed. In time probably many thousand years the water in the lake evaporated, leaving the potash deposit. Several hundred acres of this new field have already been filed on. |
