No farmers' club can attain its greatest usefulness, if in fact it can endure, without having something definite defi-nite to do. Community problems which require collective effort, such ae buying buy-ing and selling organizations, good roads, telephone service, schools, public pub-lic health, and recreation, may be discussed. dis-cussed. There is something lacking in every community that can be supplied sup-plied by the efforts of its people. It is a matter of first determining what is most needed, and then by concerted concert-ed action getting it. An organization such as a farmers' club should be the proper medium through which to crys-talize crys-talize and set in motion the beat sentiment senti-ment of a community. It should be well organized and vigorously prosecuted. prose-cuted. Many business organizations are formed by farmers each year. Where-ever Where-ever the facilities for trading and marketing mar-keting are not what they should be, ii is advisable to form these associations, associa-tions, but there are many matters which should be thoroughly considered consid-ered before doing so. It is " not a good thing to organize in order to prevent someone else from making money, but rather to cut down expenses ex-penses and to become more efficient. In fact, the main object should be to do business more economically. Business representing a large number num-ber of stockholders cannot be run successfully without keeping a complete com-plete set of records. No organization should be attempted without first making sure that such a record will be kept. A little good advice and caution at the beginning, at whatever cost, is invaluable. The experience of the agricultural extension division has been that often their services are not called for until the affairs of an enterprise enter-prise have drifted into such a condition condi-tion that it is extremely difficult to right them. The agricultural extension exten-sion division will be glad to help all farmers' organizations to start right and, upon request, will detail some competent person to meet with the farmers and assist wherever it is possible pos-sible to do so. They want to render assistance when and where it will do the most good. They would like to see worthy organizations become more and more efficient and to this end their services are at the disposal of all. |
