Relief Committee Appeals for Shipments Ship-ments of Bottled Water, as It Is Practically Prac-tically Impossible to Boll the Water for Drinking Purposes. Dayton, Ohio. After being swept by one of the most disastrous floods In tba history of the country, the streets being from three to thirty feet' under water at on tima during tbe past week, causing a loss of 210 Uvea, it eems strange that tbe people of tbe elty should be appealing to other cities for water, but such Is the case. ' Members of the citizens' relief committee com-mittee are apprehensive of a water famine water for drinking and culinary culin-ary purposes Is being exhausted. It is believed there Is little chance that the present supply can be made to laat until tbe water mains are In use again. R. II. Grant, head of the rellof supplies committee, has issued an appeal to all cities In the country asking that aa much bottled water as possible be shipped to Dnyton Immediately. Imme-diately. It Is especially desired that this water be pure, as It Is practically Impossible to boll the water for drinking drink-ing purposes. Medical supplies were reported woefully woe-fully short by MaJ. T. V. Dupuy, who la In charge of sanitary work. Drugs here were largely destroyed and the medical chests of the mt'.ltla. aa well at supplies sent by other cities, bave la many Instances been delayed by washouts and other mishaps of the flood. However, a tralnload of supplies sup-plies Is expected soon from Washing-' ton. While approximately ,500 persons are being cared for by the relief committee, com-mittee, there are more than 5,000 homeless persons in Dayton who are caring for themselves as best they can. None of the banks are open for business and, for tbe most part, the refugees tad little or no money with tbem when tbe flood came upon tbem. All the grocery stores and food supply houses have been taken over by the military and there are no fresh meats, eggs or milk available at any price. Members of the L'nited States life-saving life-saving crew of Louisville, who navigated navi-gated along sections of flooded Dayton Day-ton heretofore unexplored, returned Friday at noon,' reporting conditions In North Dayton and Rlverdale quite aa deplorable aa the flrst estimates Indicated as far as the suffering of the people was concerned.
