Show postponed to give the people furthei time to consider the mutter. The com mlaslotiers had protests against consoll datlon from Kanosh, Meadow, Sclpl and Leamington; also objections frou Deseret and Hinckley. Delta was li favor of It. Fillmore was not oppose and Oak City waa divided. It la be lleved that with opportunity for furthei consideration of the matter the objec tlona will be overcome. One thing ii certain and that Is the Impossibility o! laying out districts for new school houses and providing any way of fairly levying the school tax. The district! are already gerrymandered Into all kind of shapes to get a slice of railroad into each one and the tax Is now paid by the railroad wider protest and any further, gerrymandering or maklns shoe string districts will give the railroad rail-road good grounds for refusing payment pay-ment of school taxes. Consolidation hits got to come and opposition to It Is entirely on selfish grounds, the argument being that we have got a school house and we don't care a continental whether any other district dis-trict in the country has one or not. Education Is not a local matter only. Its benefits are state wide and nation na-tion wide. A man with no children might with as good reason decline to contribute to the support of the schools as for a school district In good financial shape to refuse to help a poorer district. The extra amount of taxation would amount to very little more in any event as It would be spread over the whole county. It might be that there was less objection ob-jection to making, two districts than in consolidation Into one, and while we favor only one district two would be a better arrangement than the present one. The east side aud the west side could each be made Into a district, if the school population is sufficient in each, and then the railway rail-way could be divided between the two districts in proportion to their needs. The question has got to be settled one way or the other In a short time, as the tax levy will soon have to be made. The columns of the Chronicle Chron-icle are open to a discussion of this Important question. We would like to hear from some of the opponents of consolidation and learn if their reasons are selfish or altruistic. SCHOOL CONSOLIDATION.
