The point of discharge of waste-, water from the factory is in an open ditch which can be further lowered to obtain more grade if necessary. This tail ditch can be made to discharge into the Sevier River with practically prac-tically no expense. This ditch wastes into the river at this time. The conditions seem to be very favorable for the proper operations opera-tions for a sugar factory, as well as the ground on the gravelly bench immediately northeast of this factory site being peculiarly adapted to making stock feeding ground in connection 'with the factory." One of the . big things to be taken into consideration by the company besides being convenient conven-ient to the town is the fact thai . this site is located on a sand soil which will be comparativelj free from mud during we! weather and, adjacent to it is s I high, sandy bench with gooc drainage which will make a feed ing ground unequalled by anj '. other in the irrigated Deltt I Country. , Water also can 9HO7 thrY V v- Jown whicTT '"T ' . .' j safe delivery of this water witl a minimum loss thru evaporation u seepage, freezing or other causes , while a site beyond the rive , would necessitate the water be . ing carried thru a flume during , the cold months and a lack oi , desirable feeding j, m is for stock which is a necessity in the -''consumption of the beet pulp. Then, to , the locating of this factory in Delta, the logical cen tral point of this great tract, eliminates any possibility of another an-other factory being' erected here before there 'is any real demand for it. The Delta Commercial Club held its regular meeting Last Saturday Evening, and the following fol-lowing business was transacted: transact-ed: - The report of the committee on the proposed sugar factory site and water for same was read, and was accepted by the Club. The site immediately north of town, under the Melville Mel-ville ditch, on the Verne Bartholomew Bar-tholomew land was found to be the most satisfactory, using Des-eret Des-eret water, and conveying it thru the Melville ditch to the factory, and after using, diverting divert-ing it back to the Deseret Reservoir. Reser-voir. The Committee was instructed in-structed to continue its work relative rel-ative to completing negotiations for this site, or to take up any other which may appear. Another meeting was held Monday at which a Committee consisting of Hyrum A. Knight J. E. Steele, and James A. Melville, Mel-ville, was appointed to go to Salt Lake and confer with the officers offic-ers of the Southern Utah Co., regarding sites and things generally gen-erally relative to the location of a sugar factory in the "Greater" Delta Country. The members of the Comercia Club and all our prominent citizens citi-zens have been very busy the past few days doing all in then power to arrange for a site anc water for the factory of tne nev sugar Co. Meeting of the boai ; Irrigation Companies were hek in Delta the last of last week and water for the new site just north of tow.n under the Melville ditch was arranged for at these meetings' and things have reach ed such a stage that it is safe tc say that the site is opened to the sugar company. There is another proposed site on the branch line just across the river, which has been given some attention but the one just north of town has always been considered feasible and satisfactory satis-factory by the representatives of the company and the community com-munity at large, and will, probably prob-ably be the one decided upom After the interview with the officials of the company at their office in Salt Lake City, these officers, or a part of them, will come down, pass on the site, and make a definite announcement as to the location. J. P. Sprunt, who was here last week negotiating with the Commercial Com-mercial Club for the site in behalf be-half of the sugar company, is now in Los Angeles taking inventory in-ventory of a new plant there which the company is figuring on purchasing. Let us all give this new enter prise our united good will and encouragement, pulling together for the benefit of our new country, coun-try, and "for the greatest good to the greatest number," and there will be no dissension and no injustice. The fitness of the new site just at the edge of town is shown by a survey which was run the fore part o f the week and the following report turned into the Committee appointed to secure a site. "Following is the results of the reconnoissance survey m;ule by myself and others today for the. proposed water supply for the Delta Sugar Factory. , Fall from Head Gates at the head of canal "G" to the point of the bench northeast of Delta |
