Show Hinckley Happenings. Mr. and Mrs. John Jarvis entertained en-tertained the lady members of the Academy and District School Faculties last Wednesday evening at their home. The evening was very pleasantly spent in playing well planned games, guessing riddles and general merry making. Mrs. Javis served ser-ved delicious refreshments to the following guests of honor. Miss Bertha Stephens, Miss Camilla Eyring, Miss Eda Cropper, Miss Erma Turner, Miss Myrtle' Lang-ston Lang-ston and Miss Nettie Hunter, besides be-sides the faculty members who enjoyed the evening were, Mrs. Mary E. Lee, Mrs. Maud Bishop, Miss Pearl Mortenson and Miss Sarah Langston. Thursday evening; the girls of the seventh grade entertained " ' in honor of the graduating class of the District School, in the as-. as-. sembly Hall. The evening was , , ;, ' pleasantly spent in games, gues- . ing contests, ect. A well pre-pared pre-pared program was - pleasingly rendered and a well prepared supper was served. Those present pre-sent were the District School Teachers and the members of the Eighth, Seventh and Sixth, grades. A fine new organ has been pur-ceased pur-ceased by the Ward and installed in the assembly hall for use in various ward meetings. The instrument in-strument was selected by Prof. John Brooks, and as his judgment judg-ment in the musical line is to be relied upon, we congratulate our-, our-, selves upon having such a spier-did spier-did musical instrument! Messers. Arthur Reeve and Dean Peterson, members of the Stake Sunday School Eoard visited the Woodrow Sunday School last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Brook and Mr. Wilford Pratt and Miss Lyle Cropper were guests at. dinner at the Copeninghome last Friday evening. , Nearly the entire population of young people of our town attended attend-ed the dance in Delta last Friday night. Everyone reports it as a most enjoyable affair. Mrs. Tillie Christensen, " has -v . gone to Idaho to meet her husband, hus-band, Elder Joseph. Christensen who has spent the last two years in the Northwestern States mission mis-sion field ahd who has been honorably hon-orably releaed to return home. Mr. Christensen and wife will reach home sometime this week where a host' of friends will be glad to welcome them. Mrs. Geo. Webb entertained at a surprise party in honor of her parents, Mr. and rs. Daniel Dan-iel Morris, Sr,. last Wednesday evening. A large number of friends assembled and spent the evening very pleasantly. Spring is here in earnest. The trees are all in leaf; the fields are green and everything begins to present an appearance far more pleasing to the eye than a few days since. The farrners are all busy in planting, irrigating and caring for their fields.' The general gen-eral spirit of the town is for improvement im-provement in a civic line, and to this end almost every family is planting trees, lawns and gardens, gar-dens, with which to beautify tneir homes and make their surroundings sur-roundings more pleasant. Farm Demonstrator Welch, is having a neat little five room bungalow erected on his property in the Southern part of town: That Mr. Welch has faith in the Vountry is shown by his locating here and we hope that he will now be able to demonstrate to . the farmers in a practical as wel! as supervisional way, what the possibilities of this land are. Mrs. Alfred Bliss was taken to Salt Lake City,- Friday night to undergo an operation for appendicitis. appen-dicitis. She was accompanied by her husband and her sister, Mrs. Robert F. Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Elkington, of Tooele, Utah are here with a view of making their home among us. Mrs. Elkington is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carson Draper, i Miss Verna Nelson is again at the home of her father after spending the winter in Deseret where she taught school. Mr: Jesse Stott, of Meadow spent Friday and Saturday in Hinckley looking after business interests. On Monday evening the finals in the Ward Oral Story telling Contest were held. Four contestants con-testants were entered, Lyle Cropper, Maud Badger, Etta Mecham and Carrie Wright. The stories were all well chosen and well rendered. The judges decided unanimously in favor of Lyle Cropper, who will represent Hinckley in the Stake Contest. Pres, A. A. Hinckley and wife and Erma Turner, went to Oak City Monday to attend the funeral of their Aunt Martha Lovell. Ernest Stout and wife have gone to Salt Lake City for an extended ex-tended visit. Milton Moody spent a few days in Salt Lake City looking after business interests. S. T, Sinclair has returned to Hinckley after spendihgthe winter win-ter in the Southern States. Mrs. Florence Neilson of Oak City is here to spend a week with her two daughters who are attending the Academy. Miss Vivian Talbot has returned return-ed to her home after spending a month in Salt Lake City, where she was operated on for appendicitis. |
