Many are starving, others are committing suicide to escape es-cape the terrors of hunger and thousands are on the verge-, of starvation star-vation in the province of Szechuan, China, because of famine, according to mail advices to the state department depart-ment received from E. Carleton Baker, American consul at Chung King. The famine is due to a protracted drought, particularly in the region of Fuchow and Cung Chow. |
