Mis Nerva Talbot of Farmlngton is visiting in Oak City with relatives and friend. Mr. I.. Olson Is home for a few-days. few-days. .Mr. Lorenzo Christenaon hurt his foot while working In Hurtner and had to return home. II. I.. Kobblna of Kciplo was In town last week on official business. The Oak City school basket ball team made a trip to Hinckley and met defeat, but think they can beat them on the Oak City grounds. Sunday night a big debate was held under the direction of the Mutual. The question was, "Resolved, That the 1'iiltcd States Senators Should lie Fleeted by the Direct Vote of the People." The debaters were, for the affirmative, V. It. Walker,. Joshua Finllnson and S. J. Kuwiinson; for the negative, Kdgar Nlelson, Willis J. I,y. titan and Joseph Finllnson. The negative nega-tive won by six points. The debate was well attended and everybody expressed ex-pressed themselves as believing Oak City has a winning team for the track meet. The spring weather has brought the farmers out of their winter holes, and they are now busy putting In their grain, etc. The dry grain looks good and a large crop Is looked for. Present Pres-ent indications are In favor of an extra large, crop of fruit If Jack Frost can keep from paying us a visit. New barns are being erected and 'general improvements are being made all over town. This shows that the people of Oak City are certainly prospering pros-pering in their homes among the mountain. With one week's practice. Oak City thinks It can hold the cup. We have plenty of material to pick from, and no doubt will bring forth a winning bunch of boys. The week's practice shows what we have as here given. For the weight there will be George K. Finllnson, Stanley Iovell, Hoy Walker, Soren J. Kawlinson and L. Cliristenson. On the sprints there will be Hay Finllnson. Win Walker, J. Dutson, C. Dutson, J. I.aunduhl, Lesley j (toper and (Ieorgo Finllnson. The distance dis-tance races will be handled by C. Roper. J. Laundahl, Fly Kawlinson, Lcland Roper. C. Nlelson, Roy Walker and George, Terry. The men for the Jumps are Win Walker, J. l.aundahl. .1. Dutson, C. Dutson, Kdgar Nlelson, Joseph Jo-seph Finllnson and Kddie Jaccrbson. The wrestler are I.. Christenson, Sr., and Roy Walker, Jr. About the same team that won the county championship champion-ship last year will represent Oak City in basketball. Joseph S. Anderson of Oak City has Just purchased from Howard & Andrews An-drews of Nephl seven head of Aberdeen-Angus cattle from a carload that linn recently got from the famous Kscher herd of llotna, Iowa. Mr. Anderson An-derson believes in having thoroughbred thorough-bred stock and thinks this breed is one of the best for this section. |
