Show I I March of Dimes Prepares For Annual Drive We, who have seen the terrible consquences of infantile paralysis among the children of Utah and America, are only too conscious of the need for contributing to the Annual March of Dimes. Those familiar and distressing sights the shrunken limbs, the twisted bodies, the awkward locomotion, loco-motion, the crutches, the wheelchairs wheel-chairs and all the other reminders of the terrible scourge are in themselves the strongest argument argu-ment for supporting the work of the National Foundation for Infantile Infan-tile Paralysis. Every cent contributed to this organization works for the victims of infantile paralysis. It is used for care and treatment of patients, for research into the cause and prevention of the disease, for e-mergency e-mergency aid in epidemic areas, and for training doctors, nurses, and physical therapists in modren techniques. Utahns may well be proud of their records in past March of Dimes, for their dimes have financed fin-anced at Salt Lake City a polio treatment center which specialists proclaim as the pattern for centers in other epidemic areas. At Salt Lake City polio center, techniques have been evolved which give promise of assuring that 85 percent per-cent of the victims currently under treatment will return to their pre-sickness pre-sickness pursuits without visible traces of crippling effects of. the dreaded disease. Prevention of life-long handicaps for even one child is a sound and gratifying investment, even tho it may cost the total of contributions contribu-tions to the March of Dimes in this and previous fund-raising campaigns cam-paigns to finance the unending fight against the Great Crippler. A record of 85 per cent the assurance as-surance that more than three-fourths three-fourths ot the victims of previous Utah epidemics of the dreaded disease, di-sease, will walk from the hospital freed of visible effects of the disease, di-sease, merits an overwhelming gratitude and hearty support of the foundation whose aid and direction di-rection has made this possible. It is the determination of the National Foundation and its chapters chap-ters in every county in Utah that infantile paralysis shall be conquered. con-quered. The people of America share in that determination, and through contributions to the March of Dimes, they take an active part in the unrelenting fight gainst the Great Crippler. |
