Show Conference Held In Delta Sunday; Well Attended General Board Sends Three Representatives To Quarterly Meeting Deseret Stake quarterly conference confer-ence was held in Delta Saturday and Sunday and drew a crowd of nearly 700 people to the afternoon after-noon general session. Elder Mark C. Peterson, newly appointed Apostle, Apos-tle, Henry A. Smith, editor of the church section of the Deseret News and Orvil Stott welfare man were the three visiting brethren to the Conference. Brother Peterson full of vim, enthusiam, and personality gave a stirring talk in both general sessions. ses-sions. In the morning he traced our religion from Adam down to the present day. "We are choice spirits and were sent down in the Latter Days to carry on the work of the Lord to a successful conclusion," con-clusion," he expressed. "We have the keys and the power to carry on the work of the Lord in preparing pre-paring the way for Christs' second coming and our greatest responsibility responsi-bility as Latter Day Saints is to serve the Lord". "We should be willing to place his work first and we will be blessed with the fulness ful-ness of the earth if we first seek the kingdom of God." "We are the servants of a God who has spoken in these last days and we are given the promise that if we make our own desires secondary se-condary the destroying angel will pass us by." . Parents were urged in his afternoon after-noon talk to keep their girls home and not let them go away for jobs as there were more girls now than jobs in Salt Lake. Parents were told to teach the gospel to their children and to begin be-gin while they are small and they would be converted before they reach the age where they think they know everything. "Teach your children faith, repentance, how to pray, teach them the history his-tory of our church and Joseph Smith. Teach them to pay tithing." ti-thing." he continued. "Religion is the greatest need of our country today and to live the gospel of Christ is the only thing that will save our nation." he said. Other speakers at the sessions were Don A. Bishop, Jay Bishop. Glen Lovell, Grace Hepworth, William Wil-liam B. Pratt, President Harold R. Morris, President M. Ward Moody, and President Ben H. Robison. A priesthood meeting was held Saturday evening and special welfare wel-fare meetings were held Sunday. Music was furnished by the Delta Del-ta Second Ward choir with Merlir, Christensen directing. Special numbers num-bers were given by a ladies trie and a mens quartet at the general gene-ral sessions. |
