Show Letter Box . Dear Mr. and Mrs. Beckwith, I received a letter from Lucille yesterday and she sent me a bunch of clippings from the Chronicle Chron-icle in there about my old dog, Bruce. I got a good laugh out of it. I surely do enjoy the articles in your paper. I usually get it after aft-er it is about a month old, but believe be-lieve me I appreciate it, especi-, especi-, ally the Armed Force column. I'm living on a (censored) here in Italy, somewhere (censored) (censored) - (censored). It is very green and pretty out in the country coun-try here. The people look pretty destitute though. The weather is just about right, although back in North Africa, when I was there it was a lot hotter and dryer. I usually us-ually manage to take a dip in the sea about every day. He had just completed a six-weeks six-weeks course in Norfolk, Va, and was on his way to the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith will leave this week to go to Denver for a month's stay. Smith is in the Merchant Marine and has been granted a month's leave. He has been in the Pacific Area for the pi;f two'years. Mr. and Mrs." Nophi Stewart received a letter from their son Ph McMerril Stewart this week. This is the first letter thoy have received from him since last Nov. 19. An attempt was being made by the Stewarts to contact him through the Red Cross. The letter said he was fine and that he had been transferred into another ward in the hospital where he works. He has apparently been getting letters from home from the comment com-ment he made in this one received. receiv-ed. Morrill is in the Pacific area. Max Shields has returned to his base at Shoemaker. California. He is in the Signal Corps. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin H. Jones received re-ceived a telephone call Wednesday night at midnight from their son. Don C. Jones SF 2C. Don said he had just landed in San Francisco. He has been in the South Pacific for two years. Pfc. Vernal Ivy is home on furlough fur-lough visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Ivy. He has been stationed at Camp Ellis. 111. Sgt. Ballard Dutson will remain in Lynndyl for awhile on account Of his eyesight being bad. (Continued on page 8) |
