Show Number Receiving Old i Age Benefits Increases ' The number of monthly old-age and survivors insurance benefits in force in Millard County which is cerved by the Salt Lake City of- : fice of the Social Security Board increased by 50 percent during 19-44, 19-44, it was announced today by Rex - A. C. Atwood, manager, in a year-end year-end statement, on the occasion of his bi-monthly visit to Delta. Explaining that his figures are estimated, and subject to minor revision, re-vision, Mr. Atwood said 130 men, women and children in Millard Co. ; have benefits of $27 a month on the average. This amounts to ap- proximately $3510.00 in old-age and survivors insurance benefits received by resident of Millard - County each month. Of the total number of persons in Millard County Coun-ty receiving old-age and survivors insurance benefits, 40 are retired wage earners. The balance are a-ged a-ged wives and minor children of - retired wage earners, and widows I minor children, and aged parents of deceased wage earners. "That old-age and survivor in- surance is truly a family insurance plan is demonstrated by the fact - that more than three of every five I beneficiaries are women and chil-1 chil-1 dren. This proportion holds true a- - mong the Nation's 1,120,000 beneficiaries," bene-ficiaries," Mr. Atwood said. "This characteristic is further ern-. ern-. phasized," he continued, "by the . fact that more than one of every three retired beneficiaries has a ; wife who is also receiving monthly I benefits on his account." 1 Summing up the situation on the t social security front, Mr. Atwood said there is one serious cause of concern to the Board's field offi-. offi-. cers: some people do not know , their rights under the old-age and ' survivors insurance program, and so may lose some benefits thru failure to act at the right time. To correct this he issued the following . advice: "Whenever a person who has worked at any time in a job ! covered by the law reaches the age of 65 he should get in touch with us and find out how to protect his ! benefit rights, even though he does not plan to retire. Whenever a worker dies, after working for a period of time in jobs covered by I the law, some member of the family fam-ily should communicate promptly ' with the Social Security Board's office at 19 West South Temple in Salt Lake City. This is the only way to make sure that no benefits , are lost." The board is concerned also, said '. Mr. Atwood, because some 20,000, 000 Americans, including the self-employed self-employed and persons engaged in . agriculture, are excluded from the protection of the system. He called attention to the board's recom-! recom-! mendation to enable excluded groups to build up insurance protection pro-tection for themselves and their families. A representative from the Board's Salt Lake City office visits Delta in January, March, May, July, September Sep-tember and November. The exact date of his visit may be learned by consulting the postmaster at Delta or the editor of the Millard County Chronicle about the first of each of the months above named. |
