Show V-E Day Observance Plans Prepared by Com mittee i Noting a decided change in the sentiments of the people of Delta, the committee for V-E Day observance, obser-vance, headed by John Day, with i Cecil Baker, Max Hannifin, June i Black, and Paul Adams as members, mem-bers, met Wednesday and made recommendations to Mayor Black for the proclamation. The committee stated that the people had changed from the idea last fall of a celebration, to a day of quiet and thanksgiving for the end of that war. No programs other than those planned in the churches have been scheduled. Proclamat ion of Mayor Golden H. ; Black carries out the recommendations recommenda-tions of the committee, and has been approved hv them. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, it appears that the European phase of the World War II may conclude at any moment with the cessation of armed conflict; con-flict; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate that V-E Day be commemorated with suitable expressions of thanksgiving thanksgiv-ing and prayer; and WHEREAS, 'it is desirable that the commemoration of V-E Day be observed ob-served in a systematic and proper manner with all interests, groups, firms, organizations, churches, and schools cooperatiing; NOW THEREFORE, I, Golden H. Black, Mayor of Delta do respectfully respect-fully request that all citizens observe ob-serve the day with the following stipulations. 1. That all places of business remain re-main open the day V-E is announced. an-nounced. 2. That all business places remain re-main closed the day following the announcement of victory in Europe. 3. That the sale of all beer cease as soon as V-E is announced and no sale is permitted until the same date as other places open for business. bus-iness. This applies also to the State Liquor Store. 4. Our churches are requested to inaugurate thanksgiving services on the evening of V-E Day. 5. That the schools hold appropriate appropri-ate assemblies when V-E is announced. an-nounced. 6.
