Show City to Save $700 Dollars Yearly On Light Bill Last week Mayor Golden H. Black received a telegram from H. A. Hook, of the Civil Aeronautics Authority permitting the City to turn off the runway lights at the airport. For over a year Mayor Black has been working with the CAA to get this request granted. The City has installed a switch in the communication station so that the operator can switch the runway lights on or off at will. It has been costing the City approximately ap-proximately $125 a month to maintain main-tain and light the anport. After October 20 the only lights burning will be the beacon and wind sock . When a plane lands at night they can request the runway lights be turned on either by radio or buzzing the station. This change will save the City more than $700 a year. When the airport was built the City agreed to light from dusk to dawn. This has been very expensive expen-sive to the City. The CAA is now working with Washington for funds to relieve all small cities of lighting light-ing airports. This action will in no way affect Delta's ownership of the airport. With the increased activity at the field, the airport should soon be a source of revenue to the City. |
