Show Services Held Sunday For Joseph 0. Ivie Joseph Orson Ivie, 80, Delta pio- neer and early settler, died Wednesday Wed-nesday night at his home following follow-ing a short illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1872, at Scipio, a son of Benjamin Martin and Martha Ann Memmott Ivie, pioneers of that area. His early life was lived there and the family fam-ily home was made there following follow-ing his marriage to Hilda Josephine Joseph-ine Frome Nov. 27, 1900. Mr. Ivie first came to the Delta area in 1906, when it was still called Burtner. He 'farmed for Jens P. Peterson of Scipio, and was the first man to plow for planting in the Burtner area. He also worked to rebuild the dams when they went out. He moved his family to Delta in June; 1911, and their home was made on the South Tract, where Mr. Ivie was among the early settlers. sett-lers. He farmed there for years until he retired, and moved to Delta Del-ta with Mrs. Ivie to make their home five years ago. They celebrated cele-brated their 51st wedding anniversary anniver-sary here Nov. 27, 1951. Mr. Ivie was a lifelong active member of the LDS churcn. tie ana his wife received their endowments in the Manti temple in June, 1939. They were the parents of four children, of whom three are surviving. sur-viving. A daughter, Mrs. Grace Ivie Peterson, died four years ago. Surviving are Mrs. Ivie, two sons, Hugh and Clark Ivie, a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Ivie Ross, all of Delta; 22 grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p. m. in Delta First ward chapel by Eldro Jeffery, of Delta Third ward bishopric. Prelude Pre-lude and postlude organ music was played by Mrs. Thelma Black. The opening song was "Lead Me Gently Home", by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Memmott, of Scipio. The opening prayer was by Anthony An-thony Stephenson, followed by a song, "In The Garden", by Kenneth Ken-neth Sampson. Speakers were Con Robins, of Scipio, and George Sampson, of Delta. They paid tribute to Mr. Ivie for his integrity and dependability, depend-ability, and for the helping hand he was always ready to extend to others. Mrs. Ruby Bishop and Mrs. Ethel Western sang "Lay My Head Beneath Be-neath a Rose". The male quartet of Don Woodbury, Keith Ross, John Peterson and Ansel Hall, sang, "Whispering Hope". Eldro Jeffery made closing remarks, re-marks, and Gerald Billings gave the closing prayer. Burial was in the Delta cemetery, ceme-tery, under direction of L. N. Nickle Nic-kle and sons. Lathel Callister dedicated ded-icated the grave. Pallbearers were James Ross, James Bullock, J. Lorenzo Sampson James Taylor, M. M. Stapley and Edward Christensen. |
