Show " .msmmmmtMm O The Gingerbread Castle (left), located at Hamburg, N. J., is a fairyland tale come true. Designed by Joseph Urban and erected by F. H. Bennett, New York businessman, at a cost of $250,000, it brings to life scores of beloved characters from Grimm's treasured volumes. Inside stalk dwarfs, gnomes, brownies, brown-ies, the big black cat, the witch herself and numerous other folks from fairyland. -' WA,r.- p. ; . Gaiiimc0 t ' M-fifr-----f-,T p . : N,0 Bennett built the fabulous Gingerbread i.e--Castle back in 1928 after he had seen a stage production of Humperdinck's im-I im-I mortal opera, "Hansel and Gretel." In the years since it was built, thousands of chil-dren chil-dren have marvelled at the wonders it holds. It is estimated that the castle has played J host to more than one million children and ! adults. In the picture at right Shirly Ne- bauer comes popping out of the fabulous shoe on the palace grounds to tell the - story to small visitors at the castle. Some children are so fascinated with the castle their parents bring them time after time to visit it. The castle is within 45 minutes of New York city and many of the visiting children are from there. |
