Show Chatter Box Dear Suzy, Here it is the first day of spring, according to the calendar, and from the looks outside, the calendar calen-dar can be right for once. It is a beautiful day and makes one wish that one hadn't taken quite so much sulphur and molasses . In fact it is a day that makes a young man's thoughts turn to love or at least turn, and if you men have thoughts I will be surprised. Even though there is a blush of spring in the air one had better get one's raincoats and storm clothes clo-thes out for the rainmakers are coming, as of April 1. If what they predict is even partly true one had best get one a boat, complete with provisions, oars and outboard motor, mot-or, and if one has the time it may pay to build another Noah's ark. Of course, this time one should use better sense than did Noah, and load the ark with only ani- mals that have proved themselves beneficial to mankind. And it may pay to limit the type of mankind allowed on the ark. Commissioner Black, who is working on this rain-making rain-making deal, says that he believes the ark should be loaded with straight Republicans and pin - up girls. That's a thought, and until a better one comes along I will go along with Commissioner Black even though I am not a pin-up girl. I hope that the younger generation gener-ation doesn't become frightened when the rains come, because there are children six years old in these parts that have never seen a rain, let alone a deluge. It may be rather trying times for them, but they will have to get accustomed accus-tomed to it. The basketball fans have returned return-ed from the big city, some the worse for wear and some just plain worse. They were up there trying, anyway, and try any way is all that some of them did. On the other hand Hebe Curtis didn't try, he just up and did.. It seems that in one of the games there the decisions of the referee were not to the liking of the Delta fans and came the end of the game Crusader Curtis maintained he was "going to bust the referee on the nose," and no sooner said than done. The referee folded up on the floor colder than your wife's feet, and Mr. Curtis was seized by 743 police men and restrained from further fisticuffs, much against the wishes of the Delta fans, because they had mayhem in their hearts and a desire to do away with referees once and fqr all. It also seems that in the last as-embly as-embly before the team went to the tournament Mr. Curtis gave them a talk on sportsmanship. In his talk nothing was said about busting a referee, so it is presumed presum-ed that there is open season on them at all time. Judge Chesley says " it is a serious ser-ious offense to smack a referee, and one should never do it - -unless, of course, one can get away aw-ay with it." Delta always has to outdo anyone any-one else, and when anyone else has one, Delta demands two or more. Take"Wrong Way Corrigan," the guy who flew to Ireland for lunch after saying he was going to California when his fame spread Delta wanted 2 "Wrong Way Cor-rigans" Cor-rigans" and they got them. Two Delta fliers, who don't seem to know north from south, told their wives that they were going to the tournament in Salt Lake City. The two were Leo (What Do We Need A Compass For) Burraston, and Leon (It Might Confuse Us So Let's Leave It Home) Theobald, and they took off supposedly for Salt Lake. After quite some delay in hearing from them Roberta got anxious to know if they made it so called the airport. The cheerful voice of the girl in charge that night said "yes they made it real fine down there." Roberta, smelling smell-ing a large rodent, queried "what do you mean down there?" And the young lady replied, "Why J to Las Vegas yt course." And that reply tossed a large monkey wrench wren-ch into the machinations of our two wrong-way artists. Here they were,' supposed to be in Salt Lake sitting in the balcony of the field house, and in, fact they were in Las Vegas doing things that people peo-ple do in Las' Vegas. :Their return 'home left much to be desired ,and they would have been glad! for" even a chilly reception, re-ception, but there was no reception recept-ion committee whatsoever. The wives had up and disappeared with out even so much as leaving some cold food in the ice box. It is not known if our two misplaced aviators avia-tors nave ' talKed themselves but of their mess yet or not but it is presumed that they are still in a very frigid doghouse and all because be-cause they hadn't briefed the young lady at the airport on their plans. Maybe these two had better get a compass, just to keep peace in the family, whether they use it or i not. Toots. |
