Show Millard County Joins Attempt In Rainmaking The Southern Utah Water Re-.ources Re-.ources Development Corp., a nonprofit non-profit corporation, was organized it a meting Monday at the county :ourt house in Fillmore. Nine counties coun-ties were represented by 37 men who drew up articles of incorporation, incorpora-tion, wrote out a contract and e-lected e-lected officers and a board of directors. The organization will attempt to bring rain to drouth-threatened southern Utah, and will deal directly di-rectly with the Water Resources Development Corp., Pasadena, CaL The company says is can increase rainfall through the use of iodide crystals 'for a price of $72,500 per I year. Millard Represented The board of directors is made up of two representatives from each of the following counties: Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Millard, Juab, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier and Wayne. Millard county is represent ed by Olaf George, Kanosh and Dudley Crafts, Delta. Washington county was not present at the meeting, but will join, it was reported. re-ported. With the corporation formed form-ed it was decided that counties should have their initial down payment pay-ment of $22,500 ready by Wednesday Wednes-day and that the president and secretary would toe empowered to sign the contract with the California Calif-ornia company and request that it start operations in this area. Millard county's share oft the total sum is $13,011, of which a third, the first down payment, is ready from county funds. Another payment will be due Sept. 1, and the remainder is due Jan. 1, 1952. This marks the beginning of an interesting experiment in this area. Farmers and livestock men are awaiting anxiously some April showers. The water shed is reported report-ed dryer than usual, and also the western ranges, lotat precipitation precipita-tion locally, as reported from the Deseret weather bureau has only been .71 inches since Jan. 1. The total 1951 precipitation from the Deseret reports was 3.15 inches. |
