Show Work to Increase Snow Pack In Southern Utah Washington county becomes the 13th southern Utah county to join the "Rain-Increasing" project was officially announced in Richfield, Nov. 19 at a meeting of the officers of-ficers of the thirteen counties, members of the non-profit water development corporation organized organiz-ed to purchase the services of Dr. Irving P. Krick, to seed clouds passing over the target area with silver-iodide crystals. Of special interest to the directors dir-ectors of this Southern Utah Corp., is the project now under way in which the cloud seeding generators generat-ors are being operated in an effort ef-fort to increase the snow pack in southern Utah. Entering the second sec-ond month of the snow-pack operation oper-ation the officers reported that snow pack during October appears to be good. With normal to above normal precipitation forecast by Dr. Krick's office for December and January the officers expressed great hopes that a number of good opportunities for the snow - pack operation will be forthcoming during dur-ing these two important winter months. Four new generators have been set up in the project for the winter win-ter operation and other installations installa-tions are still being considered, according to latest reports from the Denver laboratory heads. Seeding operation during the month of October showed numerous numer-ous occasions when cloud seeding was feasible. Precipitation recorded record-ed in October throughout the project pro-ject was spotty in character with high degrees of variability between adjoining areas. However, the bulk o'( the stations reported above-normal above-normal rainfall. Representative of the greatest amounts above the long time average av-erage for October were those recorded re-corded at Milford with 204, Min-ersville Min-ersville with 207, Modena with 196, Loa with 214 and Castle Dale with 181. The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin published by the U. S. Weather Bureau an October 9th reported moisture received during the first week in October improved condition of fall seeded wheat. .. nA locc thnn A few stations reoprted less than normal including Kanab with 51,, Escalante with 71, Moroni with 94 and Deseret 45. The most desirable seeding opportunities op-portunities occurred on the following follow-ing dates: Oct. 1 through 5, 10th, and 24th through 27th. The following generators were operated on behalf of Utah project for a total of 418 hours and 45 minutes during October; Connors Pass Nevada; Overton Nevada; Ursine Nevada; Beaver, Escalante, and Moab, Utah; Fredonia and Kayenta Arizona; Ignacio, Colo., Wells, Nevada; Blainding, Teas-dale Teas-dale and Delta Utah. |
