Show DHS Opera Gives Talented Cast Chance to Shine Delta high school singers presented pre-sented the school opera "Martha" or "The Fair at Richmond," on Wednesday and Thursday nights in Delta and on the following Monday night in Hinckley. Large and appreciative audiences' attended at-tended the gay and colorful performances. per-formances. Evan Christensen, music department depart-ment head, directed the opera. The title role was sung one night by Shirlene Steele, and another night by Dorothy Jeffery. Others singing leading- roles were Joyce Terry, Fred Adams, Kenneth Fullmer, Full-mer, Niel Heyborne and Kent Prestwich. Smaller parts were sung by Stanley Black, Ray Wil-kins, Wil-kins, Tharla Larson, Mary Lou Rawlinson and Cherie Hannifin. The opera was expertly performed, perform-ed, with the singers giving full value to the lovely lyrics. Particularly Partic-ularly effective was the chorus work, at in the scene at Richmond Fair, where the serving maids and farmers tunefully tell of their wares. "Tis the Last Rose of Summer" Sum-mer" was the appealing solo sung by Martha. |
