Show Services Held For Aged Deltan, Ufemilton Funeral services for Thompson (Tom) J. Hamilton, 90, were held in Delta First ward Monday at 1 p. m., conducted by Bishop Wallace Wal-lace Jeffery. Mr. Hamilton died the preceding Thursday, March 10, in Salt Lake county hospital. Mr. Hamilton had lived in Delta since 1917. Years ago he had been in the plumbing business, with George Morrison, as the Pahvant Valley Plumbing company. for years he was a familiar sight in the community, travelling in a white-top conveyance, from which he peddled spices, extracts, and other house hold items. At one time he was caretaker at Rudy-Patrick seed company. As his infirmities increased with his advancing years he retired from active life. He was born Jan. 21, 1859, in Mississippi, where his early life was spent in Boyle and Clarksdale across the river from Memphis, Tenn. He was married to Lenda Boyd, who died in Clarksdale in 1947, aged 79 years. In 1914 he left Mississippi.going to Los Angeles, Angel-es, and Artesia, Calif. He came to Delta on account of his health, as he had had maliaria in the south. For the past winter months Mr. Hamilton had been in Salt Lake where he fell several weeks ago, while trying to help two children who had fallen. He had been in the hospital for an operation and treatment for twenty days before his death. Surviving are two sons, Clifton and Duane Hamilton, of Clarksdale. The services were opened with prayer by George Sampson, and music by the Delta First ward choir. Jos. D. Mercer gave a short sketch of his life. Speakers were John L. Egan, T. C. Gronning, and John E. Steele, who told of Mr. Hamilton as a kindly, courteous man. A vocal duet was sung by Ora Gardner and Eldon Sorenson, and another selection was sung by the choir. The closing prayer was offered by Emmon Kozina. Burial was in the Delta City cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Evan Gardner. It had been Mr. Hamilton's request, arranged for years ago, that he be buried in Delta, where his latter lat-ter years were spent. |
