The great mines of today all were once mere prospects, and in making them men rose to become industrial leaders. Discovery and development of the Tintic Standard mine in Eureka, Eur-eka, is an example of how men and mines rise to fame. E. J. Raddatz, a man of humble circumstances circum-stances in his youth when he entered en-tered the mining game had the fortitude and the stoic determination determina-tion to make good in the face of hardship and obstacles. Young Raddatz located a group of claims in the East Tintic district dis-trict which were referred to only as a goat pasture and not too good at that. Raddatz however, with his practical knowledge of mining was determined to sink a shaft through the rhyolite capping and see what nature had done below. He organized the Tintic Standard which was financed through assessments, assess-ments, nineteen of them over a period of as many years. Finally he succeeded in sinking the Tintic Standard shaft to a depth of 900 feet and more.N Tin-tice Tin-tice Standard became one of the great mines of Utah and Raddatz one of the industrial leaders of the state. There is opportunity for intelligent intelli-gent young men in the mining industry in-dustry today. All of the mines of the future have not yet been found and there is opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in mental mining to the development of other resources which is gaining momentum throughout Utah.
