Mrs. Eva Magdclcna Wahlstrom, about seventy-four years of age, died at Laketown on April 30th, the result of general debility. The remains were brought to this city by John Ncbekcr and interred In the Logan cemetry on Wednesday May 3rd, funeral services bolng held at Laketown. The Mayor's veto of the franchise granted by the Ogden city council was sustained and a new franchise is now in the tiandsof the Committee on Municipal Law. The Union Pacific and Oicgon Short Line people arc lighting tho Mahler proposition with every means at their command. It is threatened that the railroad shops will be moed from Ogdcn if tho franchise Is granted. It Is said that the O S. L. people fear that tratllc arrangements with the I). & It. Lessee Edwards is spending considerable consider-able money In refitting the stage, and for several weeks Peterson & Sons have been engaged in brightening up tho old and painting new settings. Besides the retouching of the old scenery which gives it an entirely now appearance. Mr. Petersen Is painting four fancy interior settings, one of which in now completely finished, and under electric liglit glare is very rich and beautiful. The design Is entirely his own, decidedly artistic, and the color scheme Is worked out to the very best advantage. Tills Is truly a work of art, and without doubt the other work will not be less so. Most of the scenery In the opera house has been used a considerable time and though handled carefully it soon becomes worn. It is remarkable, however, what great Improvement Is made with a little patching 'ind paint. Mr. Petersen Is Justly proud of his work and says that he would be delighted to touch up some of the other theatres in this county.
