In many Instances men walking along tho streets who had no actlvo connection whatever with tho strlko wero assaulted by hoodlums on Tuesday, who beat them first and thon later accused them of being strlko breakers. A notablo Instance ot this kind was that of Rov. W. K. Wheolor, pastor of tho Ninth Presbyterian church, who, whllo passing tho corner of Desplnlnes and Adams street on his way to tho Pennsylvania station was attacked by tlirco mon, who knocked him down and beat him unmercifully, until the timely arrival of tho pollco Baved him from critical injury Mr. Wheeler managed to hold ono of his assailants until tho pollco could nrrest him. |
