Students of tho IS. Y. College numbering hundreds preceded the hearst to tho tabernacle. Tho lower floor was filled with, and tho gallery contained many moro f i lends who came to witness the last rites. On the stand were Prof. Tanner, Tan-ner, President Llnfordand Piof. Miller Mil-ler of the IS. Y. 0., and Moses Thatcher, Thatch-er, ISIshop Skanchy presided. After tho opening hymn, prayer was ofloied by Bishop T. X. Smith, followed follow-ed by UlshopChas. G. Sister Sis-ter llovven was atriie, faithful Latter-day Latter-day Saint, tilling every obligation on her part to conform to tho requirements require-ments of the gospel." Prof. Miller said: "I have felt a deep grief In connection with the oc (Continued on last page) The Bowen funeral. caslon which brings us together. Let us all remember we arc here on mis slons. There Is no set time given us to remain here: It may be three score and ten, more or less. Wc aie here on probation, to woik out life's mission Reyond life Is the lcsurrectlon anil without a hope tnsrehl we would be most miserable. If the Loid would give us Ills spirit wc can praise Him even In tribulation and trials. At times we feel that affairs or life arc not or much moment to us;wc are heic today and gone to-morrow, If we keep our covenants and live aright our lles then will have been a success! To the husband I would say, turn to the Lord, seek Him, lie will show unto un-to you His all-wise purpose in this which now appears to you as one of the deepest soirows." Prof. J. M. Tanner -"We aie gathered gath-ered here to pay our respects to a departed de-parted slster.and to draw In the wanderings wand-erings of our minds and letlect upon tho present and the future Wc sought this estate, wc desired It when it was conferred upon us. Wc cling to lire, we dread death, but it eomcs'to all and we must meet the heieafter. The question arises, how ate we prepared pre-pared to meet itV In thinking of it wc arc reminded that we must render an accounting. Is it not better to be successful in death, than to be so in life? Let no man adjudge himself roitunatc until the circumstances surrounding sur-rounding death are known. Sister Rowcn has gone to meet her maker. She cherished kindly reelings toward her fellowman. Riches are not to be conpared with the conlldencu and loc or true friendship. The burdens of lire we must live; the pains, tilals and disappointments must bo carried. How can they be cariled most easily? The Savior said 'My yoke is easy and my burden is light.' Eromthls source we can secure aid and strength to carry car-ry our burdens. May the burdens or the bereaved husband be made light by that influence fiom above t,hat ncer rails." A solo was sung by Mrs. Nettie Sloan. Levi Young, or Salt Lake City "The few minutes that I occupy I ask lor tho praycra or the hearers and tho spirit of the Loid to aid me. The gospel gos-pel teaches us that life is ours but death Is the Lord's, and when Ho calls wo must obey. The bereaved and myself have traveled together In the mission Held. While there liis dear wife wrote him letters only such as can bo written by a true, lovable woman. At home she was ti tie, faithful faith-ful and patient while her husband was bearing the gospel message to the world." The speaker then repeated a shoit sketch of Pilgilm's Progiess In his address, which was very touching, and then proceded--,,Rrother llowen, God bless you' Remember what we used to say to one another in the mission mis-sion Hold. 'God Is merciful and loving to his children.' God bless all the bereaved, be-reaved, for tfie day will come when all will be well." Moses Tliatclici "Gatherings of this kind aic of a solemn character. I speak to you by the request of tho family. As we Increase in numbers funerals are moie frequent. Latter-day Latter-day Saints meet death dlffeiently from tho woild because they know-more know-more of life As we live heic so we lled In a pre-existont state. Each of us has an identity with our elder brother. A c may rejolco in IRc and also In death. Tho laws of nature are tho laws of God and if violated the penalty must be met. The eternal life of which we speak is the up-lirtlng froin tho lower to the higher state even In perpetuating each or us in our spheres. Man cannot be saved without with-out the woman. It was so ordained Horn the beginning. In the creation, after animals of tho lower life were created, Got) cicatcd man, after which an help-meet was provided. It has been said that In the beginning there weio no divorces and In eternity thero will be no manlagcs. The leal true riches of God lie In tho family organization. organ-ization. Who has tho power to name the glory that tho motherhood of Mrs. Rowcn will bilng to her. Human woids can only comfort but the bereaved be-reaved husband knows well the source fiom which he can secure solace and relief. If an earthly parent knows how to bestow good girtsupon children how much better can our Heavenly Father bestow tho needful blessings to us. May the comforting Influences of the Holy Spirit bless Rrothcr Rowcn Row-cn and all the members of tho bereaved be-reaved family. May tho presence of God watch the little Infants by night and by ilaj and overrule all according to lls will and pleasure." Slnglug"'Oh My Father." -Rene-diction by President Llnford,. |
