Co., came to Logan Wednesday evening, and returned to Salt Lake Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Northrop, parents par-ents of Prof. R. S. Northrop, returned to their home in Lansing, Mich., on Thursday. They had a delightful month's visit here. Cart-wright Cart-wright was the hostess, and her daughter, Mrs. W. S. BIng, of Salt Lake City, tho guest of honor. The afternoon was spent most delightfully by the guests, Mesdames Naylor Champ, Leo Campbell, Fleming, D. C. Budge, F. Thatcher and Emels. O. R. Sterling, representing tho Folger teas and colfecs, has been in Logan the past few days looking after the trade. Mr. Sterling has just returned re-turned from a visit to the firm at Sau Francisco, and a trip along the coast. Ho says that in a year's travel between be-tween British Columbia and Mexico he has not seen any stretch of country looking more prosperous than Cache valley does at this time. During the past two years the Folgcr people have worked up a splendid coffee and tea trade in Utah, tho result of the very superior quality of the goods and judicious judi-cious advertising. George G. Schwelzer. chief commissary commis-sary steward of the battleship Georgia, who will be remembered as a visitor in Logan about a year ago, was married mar-ried to Mrs. Rose Caromck, of Peterson, Peter-son, Utah, on Tuesday. Schwelzer's real name Is Rathgeb and his parents live In Logan. For a short time before be-fore tho boy disappeared from tho city several years ago, he was cared for by Jacob F. Schwelzer and then took his name. Schwelzer met Mrs. Carmack,' a widow, while on a visit through this country a year ago and kept up a correspondence cor-respondence after returning to his ship. Maurlco Swlnyard, manager of the Lcwlston Mercantile company, passed through Logan Thursday enrouto for Salt Lake City. Mrs. Kate Bassett returned toProvo Thursday. Bert Barber, who came from Card-ston Card-ston last Monday morning to attend the funeral ot his brother Solon, returned re-turned Thursday. While Mr. Barber was unable to reach Logan in tlmo for the services, the grave was left opened si that he viewed the remains. Nearly every boy in town knows Charlie Harris's beautiful dog "Jack" which was shot last Saturday morning morn-ing near Danielson's factory. See the reward of $25 00 which is offered in this issue. This was a trained bird dog and nearly every hunter in this valley knew him. Another occupant for Mr. II. G. Hayball's automobile has come to town, a White boy. Though the little fellow arrived only last Sunday Mr. Hayball has been down Into the Second Sec-ond ward no less than four times attempting at-tempting to get him out for a time. Mr. and Mrs. White are quite happy over the success of the recent event. Civil Service examinations will soon be held throughout tho United States. A cablegram from President Roosevelt Roose-velt says that a .leather medal Is now enroute from Washington to Ilyrum Jeppesen, of the Sixth ward, this city. On Wednesday Mr. Jeppesen became the father of a fourteen-pound boy. While the father gets the medal, Mrs. Jeppesen, the other slightly Interested party, gets a pension for life and Is granted Immunity for ten years. Tho law provides pro-vides that he shall preside over the three counties of Cache, Box Elder and Rich. In Brlgham City Is an exceptionally ex-ceptionally diligent and efficient probation pro-bation officer, and this makes It unnecessary un-necessary for Judge Pederson to go over more than occasionally. From Ely, Nevada, Frank Turner writes that the railroad running Into that camp handles 400 cars a month exclusive of those going to the smelter. For a ride from Ely to Cobre, 140 miles, a fare of 810 is charged. From these figures he calculates that the railroad company is making a ton of money. Frank speaks of an excite-men excite-men at Ely over the discovery that Japs thero were drilling at early hours ot the morning. I There will be two Important congresses con-gresses held In the near future, one in Sacramento, Cal., and the other In Muskogee, Okla. The people of tho Interniountaln region should be interested in-terested In both of these. Tho first to take place is the irrigation congress con-gress on September 2nd to 1th, at Sacramento, Cal. Very low rates have been secured on all railroads. The other Is tho trans-Mlsslsslppi congress, November 10th to 22nd, at Muskogee, Okla. Logan Is entitled to send five delegates to Sacramento and two to Muskogee. Mayor Robinson desires that Logan bo represented at these congresses and would be pleased to give credentials to any who will make known to him their readiness to attend.
