Show Piano Teacher Assoc provides training information service Any parent needing a piano teacher for their children can contact Mrs. Eugene Dalley 586-8066 586-8066 secretary of the Southern Utah Piano Teachers Association. This association keeps a current list of those teachers with openings for students, also a record of each teachers credentials. This is just one of the many services this organization offers. Since its inception a few years ago, under the direction of Hal Campbell, professor of piano music instruction at SUSC, the organization has grown to include in-clude a membership of 27. During the past tfyee years the organization has sponsored an ensemble festival and two solo festivals which have involved more than 400 piano students in each event. The purpose of the organization has been to up-grade the piano teaching of the area as well as to offer opportunities such as those previously mentioned. Meetings are held six times each year with each meeting based on some needed phase of instruction for better piano teaching. Mini-courses Mini-courses in theory, phrasing, special kinds of techniques, introducing in-troducing the new student to the piano, reperatoire and many others have been given over the years. Many new ideas for teaching piano are being tried at the present time throughout the country. It has been the desire of the association to keep abreast of new innovations and then to encourage its members to use those ideas that will improve and facilitate their teaching. The association has given information in-formation in group 1 piano instruction, in-struction, computer instruction, basic chord approach and many i other facets of piano teaching . now being used. Those members of the association who are af-: af-: filiated with the UMTA have brought to the members in-i in-i formation and . materials received at the conventions and other workshops sponsored by this organization. Any piano teacher may join the organization by calling Mrs. Royce Chamberlain, Pres., or Mrs. Ardeen Childs, Vice Pres. The next meeting for the organization will be held February 9 at 1:00 p.m. Ideas for teaching simple theory to beginning students will be given. The association has made plans to sponsor a concert type festival for the exceptional students of piano in this area. It is scheduled to be held the first part of May. Teachers of the area, who have advanced students who may wish to participate, should contact one of the officers of the association. |
