Show Radial Tire Saves Gas New York (HK) One of the advantages of equipping your car with steel belted radial ra-dial tires is the fuel savings they bring-an important consideration con-sideration with the rising price of gasoline and the impending fuel shortages. Just how much mileage a radial can add to your car has been a subject of much controversy, contro-versy, since some motorists fuel savings are considerably more than others. Why this is so has been somewhat of a mystery. Big Cars Too According to new information informa-tion from Uniroyal Tire Company, Com-pany, any particular make or model automobile will achieve about one mile more per gallon gal-lon of gasoline. This means that a car delivering 10 miles per gallon with bias-ply tires should get 11 miles per gallon with radials, a 10 percent savings sav-ings in gasoline. A car delivering deliver-ing 20 miles per gallon with bias-ply tires will only achieve a 5 percent gasoline savings with the 21 miles per gallon expected with the radial. Fn other words, radials will save big cars more gasoline than small cars. Steel belted radial tires deliver de-liver more miles per gallon of gasoline because they roll at a constant fixed circumference -similar to the way a steel hoop rolls. The circumference of a bias-ply tire, on the other oth-er hand, shortens with increased increas-ed load (bigger cars) or lower tire pressure. |
