Show PHS basketball team drops fourth game in row The Parowan High basketball basket-ball team dropped its fourth league game of the season at Beaver last Saturday night in their game with the Beaver Bea-ver team The game had been postponed a day by the wild Friday afternoon snowstorm, and the Beavers, struck with a suddenness that apparently apparent-ly had the Rams thinking they were in another blizzard. Taking advantage of their small floor, the Beavers came out and immediately threw their famous full-court press at the Rams,, sweepinv them off their feet, and the home team never let them recover, it seems. Coach Robert Tobler, in an effort to stem the Beaver Bea-ver tide, used several combinations combin-ations of players, to no avail. In the effort he cleared his bench and only one man on the squad, Steve Johnson, a second string member, could score in the double figues, and we understand that was late in the game. The home team went out on lead by 21 to 11 at the end of the first quarter, made it 44 to 26 at halftime. They continued their pressing and also hot shotting to cause numerous turnovers and bad passes by the Ram players, and thus reaped the benefit of the turnovers, which they usually converted to points. The Beaver lead went to 67 to 37 at the third quarter rest, and rose to an 84 to 56 score at the end. With the home team being hot, the Parowan players, although trying all the way, seemed to get colder with each succeeding quarter. The box score and quarter scores really tell the story. The Rams were beaten by the Kanab team in the opening game of division play back in December and the Cowboys have topped the league ever since. It has even gone out of its division to hand the Cedar High Redmen a rather bad licking. |
