Show County 4-H'ers to stage community pride meet How can youths find dignified community service projects? Do elected officials lack confidence to back youth community projects? These are only two of the questions 4'H'ers in Iron County will attempt to find the answers to when they stage a Community Pride Conference in Cedar City Feb. 23. "We became aware of problems like these when we established a pilot program of a civic nature in Cedar City last year," commented Utah State University Extension youth staff assistant, Alene G. Chamberlain. "As we talked with local officials, of-ficials, we learned many of our youth groups did not know how to select a project. Or they had trouble finishing what they started and knowing if thev needed permission for a project," she explained. It was for this reason USU Iron County Extension decided to sponsor a youth Community Pride Conference. Assisting with the conference will be Art Jones, USU Extension youth specialist, and the Iron County 4-H Teen Council. The Teen Council will conduct the all-day program which will include a discussion with city officials and delegate discussion of ideas. Special guest speaker for the day will be Don Anderson of Mountain Fuel Supply Co. He will talk on the topic "How do we Work Together." Invitations to representatives of all youth groups in the county have been extended. |
