Livestock Show preperations readied for 34th annual event Some changes have been made for the 34th Annual South West Livestock Show to be held in Cedar City Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7. it was noted this week by Neil K. Boyter, secretary of the organization. Some changes in weights in the fat class divisions have been made for this year, he noted, and a special division has also been added to this year's show, that of goats. In addition the 17th annual Ram Sale will also be held in conjunction with the show with . all events to be staged at the pavillion on North Main Street. This year the president of the South West Livestock Show is Tom Williams with Robert L. Gardner serving as the show manager. All entries in the show begin early Friday morning with the judging of swine to begin at 8 p.m. That will be followed by the judging of the breeding sheep at 9 a.m., judging of fat steers at 10 a.m. with judging of the fat lamb and breeding cattle scheduled at 1 p.m. The goat entries will be judged immediately following. Mtting and showmansip contest w ill be held following the judging of each division and the junior judging contest will be held at 4 p.m. Friday night an exhibitors banquet will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Sugar Loaf Cafe sponsored by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Cedar City. At the banquet awards will be presented and winners announced in the various competition. Saturday will see the beginning of the fat stock sale at 9 a.m. and the Ram Sale Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. will conclude the events. According to Secretary Boyter entries are already heavy for the event, but he noted that some changes have been made in the w eight limitations in the fat stock divisions. For the interest of potential exhibitors all fat beef weight less than 850 pounds and more than 1150 will be sifted. In the lamb division the weight limits are 90 and 120 and for fat hogs the weight has been set between 190 and 240 pounds. The auction Saturday, highlight of the show, has annually an-nually drawn top money for the young exhibitors. This year promises to be equally successful, the secretary stated. |
