Show "Shoot for the Stars" I j competition for youth The Utah Stars -- in conjunction with Utah National Guard --again --again this year will conduct the "Shoot for the Stars" run, dribble and shoot competition for youngsters. Competition is broken down into three age groups - 9 and 10, 11 and 12, 13 and 14 (as of Jan. 1, 1974). Regional competition will be held throughout the state of Utah and in southern Idaho during the month of February with local winners being brought into the Salt Palace for quarterfinal quarter-final and semi-final competition prior to and at half-time of stars' games on March 8, Stars vs. Denver Rockets ) (Southern Region). Finals for the three top youngsters in each age division will be conducted at half-time of the Stars - Kentucky game on Tuesday, March 26. It's easy to compete in the "Shoot for the Stars" competition. com-petition. Interested youngsters should go to any Utah National Guard Armory and pick up official of-ficial entry forms. This can be done anytime prior to regional competition in February. Thousands of dollars worth of valuable prizes will be awarded lucky winners. First place finisher in each of the three age groups will win a pair of season tickets to Utah Stars basketball games for the 1974-75 season, plus a trip for the winner and one parent to a t western division playoff game with the Stars this spring. There are other great gifts, too, like family ski passes for the 1974-75 season to Solitude Ski Resort for the three grand prize ; : winners. Hi-Land Dairy products in the amount of $75 will be going to first-place winners with $50 in dairy products to second-place finishers and $25 in dairy products to third-place finishers. The use of a Uteliner motor home for a weekend will go to the three runners-up while a season individual in-dividual ski pass to Solitudede will be awarded to each third-place third-place youngster. Colonial Ford will award trophies to all nine finalists.. In addition, all semi-finalists will be given free Adidas shoes . and a tee-shirt with the Stars' logo on it for half-time' competition. com-petition. The nine finalists will compete in complete Stars' uniforms which they will be able to keep. Every participant in local competition will receive a poster of a Utah Stars player and a Stars bumper sticker free. Winners in last year's competition com-petition were scott Evans of Riverdale in the 9-10 age group; Mike Maxwell of Salt Lake City in the 11-12 division and Jeff Petty of Tooele in the 13-14 age category. |
