Show T-birds face California Duo Long Beach State and San Diego state and sports a 6-2 record. SCC beat thge T-' Birds two of three games last season, with Southern Utah's only win 2-1 in the series opener. Petty will throw sophomore righthander Garn Jorgensen, Provo, on Thursday while Friday Salt Lake City sophomore Scott Bell, a lefthander, gets the call. Saturday, senior righthander Rick Kienast of Long Beach and Kyle Newman, junior righthander from Orange, will do the hurling. Leading the T-Bird hitting attack is Kienast, Warren Hatch (senior catcher), and John Borla (junior catcher). All three are batting .500. On the mound, Jorgensen and Rex Shipp are both 1-0 while Shipp has a 0.00 ERA. Next action for the T-Birds will be April 3 and 4 with games against University of Utah and Brigham Young. Southern Utah State's baseball team moves into the second week of action with four games in three days. The T-Birds travel to Southern California to meet Azusa Pacific (Thursday) for a single game and face Southern California College (Friday) in a single game and (Saturday) in a double header. Coach Cleo Petty's T-Birds T-Birds opened their season last week with victories over Nevada-Las Vegas (2-1) and Colorado Mines (6-1). Nevada-Las Vegas won the season opener 5-0 over SU. Azusa Pacific (9-3) will throw righthander Hank Ritchey (3-1). His only loss was to NCAA power University of Arizona. The Cougars split with Arizona and lost to NCAA champ Arizona State.
