Show Pony Express feature of County Fair PAROWAN - It has been announced an-nounced by the Iron County Fair Board that the purse for the pony express race to be held during the fair has been raised from $1000 to $1250. Norm Evans, chairman of the event wishes to remind horsemen hor-semen that work should begin soon to prepare horses for this rigorous race. The race was written as a tribute to the pony express riders of old, who trained tough cow ponies to hold a steady gallop for many miles over rough terrain. , It is hoped that this year's race will host a number of entries and feature competition fitting in this Bicentennial year as we honor the events of the past. The race is run with teams of horses consisting con-sisting of five on a team. Each horse runs two miles then a baton is passed to the next rider who goes on with the race. Entry fee is $5.00 per horse ana horses entered cannot have earned more than $50 on the track during the year prior to the race. Anyone wishing more information in-formation on the rules and regulations should contact Norm Evans in Parowan. |
