Show LOOKING BACK By Dorothy Rogers Did you know That a city must not only be a good place in which to live, but must be a good place in which to make a living! No city ever becomes greater than its business. ) 50 years a go-Mrs. go-Mrs. Lehi Jones, Mrs. Annette Bettensen and Miss Alice Williams left Cedar City to go to Chicago where they studied music for the summer. Mrs. Jones took piano instruction, Mrs. Bettensen and Alice Williams studied vocal music. . 25 years ago-New ago-New officers for the Southern Utah Livestock Show Association were elected and plans started for the annual livestock show to be held in Cedar City. New officers are Carlos Jones, president, Alex Williams was named show manager, V.R. Magleby, Assistant manager and Neil K. Boyter was re-elected secretary treasurer of the Association. ALSO Garth Chatterley, a native of Cedar City graduated from a Utah Medical School and was the first in this community to receive a doctor's degree from the University of Utah. 10 years ago Cedar Chapter No. 20, Order of Eastern Star, met at the Masonic Temple in special session Friday. Mrs. Margaret Stye, worthy matron and Harry Freeman, worthy patron presided. They extended a cordial welcome to worthy grand matron, Mrs. Bernice J. Willie and Joseph Savage, worthy grand patron. First time visitors were greeted and introduced at the conclusion an impressive ceremony centered around a "Pot of Gold" at the end of a rainbow was presented by officers of the Grand Chapter. Background music was by Lelah Wilson. Refreshments were served. ' |
