Show Senior Little Leaps shoots for state championship Cedar City Senior Little League baseball team, winner win-ner of the District 1 championship champ-ionship Saturday with a 7-6 victory over Richfield will host Clearfield here Saturday. July 31 for the state championship and the right to advance to the Sectional tournament to he held next week in Las Vegas, Nev. Game time has been set for 8 p. rn. in the single game tournament that will determine deter-mine a state winner in the Senior Little League program. The Cedar City team is the defending state champions. Jim Cox and Leland Black have ibeen working 'hard this week to polish the club in preparation for the contest after a rather sloppy victory to pick up the District championship. champ-ionship. It s expected that Kevin Cox will get the starting nod on the mound although any member of the 14-man team is eligible to pitch. Tournament rules allow a player to pitch 12 innings in any one game and every other game in a single level of competition. Since the state tournament is another level of play any .member of the team is eligible to go to the mound provided they have had one day's Test. Since the Cedar crew's last tournament competition was last Saturday all members are eligible at this level of play. However, should Cedar tournament tour-nament team repeat as State Champions and advance to Las Vegas all members of the team who pitch in Saturday's contest would not be eligible to open on the mound at Vegas. The same would apply to the visiting Clearfield team, it is pointed out iby Yorke Nelson, district representative of Little League. |
