Show Senior Little Lea gue wins district tournament Some things are just destined des-tined to be and the Cedar Senior Little League team winning the district tournament tourna-ment here Friday and Saturday Sat-urday seemed to be one of those things. The Cedar City crew romped through Milford 15-1 in the opening game of the tour nament then stumbled, fell, got up and stumbled again but still came out on top against Richfield 7-6 to win the title in Saturday's action. In that championship game a four-run first inning saved the battle as the Cedar City team had its share of difficulty diffi-culty for the remainder of the game.. In the first frame, Craig Rollo. Robert Piatt both walked, Kevin Cox gat hit by a pitched ball. Ray Meyers sent the first run in withl a single and Cornel Christensen doubled and Jerry Sehaack singled to pu9h in the fourth run before the frame ended. It was the third inning that trouble really began brewing for Cedar when a ball was dopped on a third strike, which for all intent and purposes pur-poses was the third out of the frame leaving the bases loaded. But the Richfield runner run-ner was alert enough to take off for first base on the dropped drop-ped third strike and before the dust had settled two runs had come across and a third was scored before the inning was out. Christensen was on the mound for the winning Cedar team and Tasker of Richfield suffered the loss. Both teams collected seven hits but Cedar had a total of four costly errors er-rors and the visitors from Richfield had but one. All of Riohfield's hits were singles while Christensen, Robert Shirts and Mark Slack each hit doubles for Cedar. In the opening round of the tournament the Cedar City team coasted past Milford 15-1 with Kevin Cox, on the mound, allowing two hits and collecting collect-ing 14 strikeouts. Doubles were hit by Rollo, David Kanosh, Shirts and Slack while Sehaack Seha-ack homered in the contest. Richard Smith suffered the loss for Milford giving up a total of 19 hits. Richfield advanced to the finals by virtue of a 8-3 win over Parowan. Richfield belted out eight singles in the contest off Chris Bentley. Thalman ' picked up tiie mound victory. For Parowan the Bentley boys put on a seventh inning show with Chris doubling and Karl Bentley homering to account ac-count for two of Parowan's three runs in the game. Saturday a consolation game- was held with Milford coming from behind to win 5-4 dispite the fact that Parowan outhit the Milford crew 7 to 3. In the seventh frame Milford took advantage of a walk, a fielder's choice and a double by Barnes to push in two runs and over take Parowan for third place in the tournament. Barnes was the winning pitcher and Mortensen suffered the loss. Richard Smith of Milford., homered in the third frames, one of three round trippers" belted in the four-game event. |
