Show North Iron County Cancer Unit I fund drive overtop i , i The Iron County North Unit Of the American Cancer Society Socie-ty has gone over the top of Its goal for the 1971 Cancer ' pund-raising Crusade. This announcement is made from Utah Cancer Division head- . -quarters in Salt Lake City. I Volunteer workers, headed bv Mrs; Glenna Orton, collected collect-ed $506.90, which is 113 of JMie area's goal of $450. During the campaign, vol-itnteers vol-itnteers contacted business Jirms and residents throughout through-out the northern area of the rounty, Summit, Parowan and !Faragonah, soliciting contributions contribu-tions and leaving educational 'materials on cancer. Each fa-Snily fa-Snily received a pamphlet list-l list-l ling the seven warning sig-I sig-I Inals of cancer, knowledge of .which may save lives.. I Preston G. Adams, state cru-I cru-I sade chairman, congratulated I Mrs. Orton and North Iron I County volunteers on their I outstanding drive and paid I tribute to them for their ef-I' ef-I' fective work in the battle I against cancer a disease l- which will take 335,000 Amer-I Amer-I icans this year. Of this total I more than 2000 will be from I Utah. I North Iron County is one of I the 40 County Units throughout through-out the state which has helped help-ed raise a total of more than' $226,000, exceeding the record Utah division goal of $220,-000. $220,-000. The money raised' is used for cancer research., profes-sonal profes-sonal and public education,. , and assistance to the cancer patients.. For ever $10 contrib- uted to cancer reseasch by Utahns' the National Cancer Society has returned $40 to i Utah in research grants to the Utah hospitals and universities. universi-ties. Research grants totaling $160,598 have been granted to the University of Utah Med-ican Med-ican School, the LDS Hospital and Brigham Young University. |
