Show BLM reports good Quilchapa skating Runoff from recent rains j and melting snow followed by ! cold freezing weather have created excellent ice skating conditions at Quichapa Lake couthwest of Cedar City. According Ac-cording to the BLM this ideal condition may exist only for a short time due to the lack of permanent streams to re-! re-! new the ice surface. Snow or thawing weather could damage the present quality. The expanse of ice is about two miles long and one half mile wide. Total depth of the ice and water on the flat na- tural lake bed does not exceed ex-ceed one foot in depth. So, there is no hazard of breaking break-ing through. People desiring to skate at Quichapa should travel from Cedar City seven miles west on the New Castle Highway. Immediately after passing under the large power line, a road turns east through a gate and on about one fourth mile to the lake. |
