Show Little Leagues prepare for tourney Two Cedar City Little League tournament teams are working out daily in preparation prepara-tion for the 13-team. district baseball tournament to .be held at Kanab July 21 through 24. It is ironical that in the history his-tory of the Cedar City Little League baseball program, since it was divided into two leagues, the tournament teams have never met each other in tournament play. Both teams must compete in the tournament and only one team out of the 13 may ad- vance to the State level tournament tour-nament which will be held in Salt Lake City. The two Cedar City clubs, American and N a t i o n al Leagues, are in different brackets of the tournament and the only way that they could meet in this year's tournament tour-nament would be in either the championship or consolation Championship games on Saturday. Sa-turday. Cedar National, coached by Wes Kama and Raymond L?.ird, will be the first of the two teams to see action. They meet Beaver at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The Cedar American will cap off the day's schedule of six games meeting Milford at 6:00 p. m. A win for the National Na-tional League would have them playing at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday while a loss would put them into the consolation bracket for a 10:30 a.m. game. For the American League a win would have them playing at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and a loss would mean that they would play at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Thurs-day. Other pairings in the tournament tour-nament are as follows: Upper bracket, St. George. Sunset opens against Parowan; Paro-wan; Lincoln County meets Tri-City, the defending champions cham-pions and host team at 10:30 a.m.; Richfield will meet West Zion at 12:30 p.m. and Cedar National and Beaver meet at 2:30 p.m. In the lower bracket pairings pair-ings include South Sevier against Panguiteh at 4:30 p.m. and Cedar American against Milford at 6:30 p.m. St. George Sunset draws an opening round bye. The American League team will be handled by Harold Shirley and Klien Rollo. Winner of the District tournament tour-nament will travel to Salt Lake City where the! State tournament will be hosted by Rosecrest on Monday, Aug. 2. The winner of that single game, matching the northern and southern district winners will travel to Reno, Nev., for the sectional level of tournament tourna-ment play, where four state champions will be, including Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming, according to Yorke Nelson, District Representative of Little League, Inc. |
