Show Rotary club team clinches title with free-swinging 22-0 victory Rotary has captured the Little League Crown in the American League baseball program for 1971. After winning the first half championship Rotary and Spillsbury-Graff were "tied for the lead going into the final two games of the season. Spilsbury -Graft lost to Kiwanis Ki-wanis 10-1 and Rotary came on strong for 22-0 shutout victory vic-tory over Milne to wind up the season and give the Ro-tarians Ro-tarians the league championship. champion-ship. Final second half standings were as follows: Rotary 5 2 Spilsbury-Graff 4 3 Carter Bros. 4 3 Kiwanis 4 3 Milne 3 , 4 Coleman 1 6 Rotary's season record was 13 wins and 2 los.ses with both losses coming in the second half of the season play. Kiwanis wound up with the second best winning record of season. Kiwanis was paced by David Dav-id Wright in their final victory vic-tory of the season. Wright was on the mound allowing v just four hits but he struckout 16 batters over the six innings of play and assisted on one of the ether two putouts for his team, in addition he collected coll-ected three hits in four trips to the plate including a home run and he scored three runs. Only other extra hase hit of the game was a double by Dale Corry of Kiwanis. Suffering Suffer-ing the mound loss was Chamberlain of Spilsbury-Graff. Spilsbury-Graff. Rotary went hog wild in their final victory of the season sea-son collecting 24 hits and pushing in 22 runs. The hit parade was led by Ricky Rollo in six trips to the plate, walked, walk-ed, singled twice, belted two doubles and a home run. He scored five runs and drove in six. Other top hitters included in-cluded David Sjoblom, he batted bat-ted 4 for 4 and Eric Thompson Thomp-son who had four hits in five trips to the plate. The shutout shut-out mound victory went to Rollo who gave up only two hits and collected nine strikeouts strike-outs in route to the victory. With league action complete the American League tournament tourna-ment team will now ready for action in the District Little League tournament to be held at Kanab July 21 through 24. The Tournament Team consists con-sists of 11 and 12 year old boys from the league, selected by , the coaches, to enter national tournament play. |
