Show Milne Team Leads American League As Little League Baseball Swings Into Action Milne, defending champions of the American Little League, is back on the top rung of the league standings after the opening open-ing week of action with a two win and no loss record. Close behind Is Klwanis with one win and no lossess followed Websters squared off with a win and a loss and in the cellar, Rotary with three losses to date. Milne opened the season with an 11 to 3 win over Webster Coal. The Truckers sent three pitchers to the mound, Merrill Williams, Bryce Bybee and Wayne Esplin. Burneil Thorley went the distance dis-tance for cbster. Milne collected collect-ed 12 hits including doubles by Phil Andrus, Esplin and Bybee. The Miners were held to a single nil, single by Thoriey. In their opening game, Klwanis Klwa-nis posted a 13 to 5 victory over Rotary. Home Runs were the order or-der with Jeff Carr and Paul Stei-nfels Stei-nfels belting out round trippers for Kiwanis and Jack Miller tagging tag-ging one for Rotary. Winning pitcher was Steinfels with Doug Carter suffering the loss. Crea McMullin and Chris Bulloch for Kiwanis and Greg Woods of Ro- tary also saw action on the mound. Kiwanis picked up 9 hits and the Rotarians were limited li-mited to Just 3. Friday evening it was Wu ..or Coal taking the measure of Rotary Ro-tary by a score of 16 to 3. Websters Web-sters collected 10 hits, Including a four for four effort by Harold Marshall. In losing, the Rotarians Rotari-ans had seven hits with a double doub-le by Donald Middleton. Ray Fife was the winning pitcher for Webster's and Jim Turnbaugh was charged with the I loss. Mike Savage and Terry Walker also saw action for Web- I sters with Jack Miller and Bernie Leavitt on the mound for Rotary. Milne collected 13 hits Including Includ-ing four doubles and one home I run by Esplin to post the victory. 1 Rotary collected only one hit, a single by Lynn Hatch. Lyle Hey-I Hey-I borne was the winning pitcher i with Esplin finishing out. Turn-! Turn-! baugh was charged with the loss. He was on the mound for four Innings giving way in the fifth : to Greg Woods. |
