Show Council Considers Bids On Airport, And Sale Of Bonds For Golf Course Cedar City Council met Wednesday Wed-nesday evening of last week in a special session to consider two separate matters bids for the sale of bonds for the Municipal Golf Course and to reconsider bids submitted the previous week on construction of a new runway and Improvements at the Municipal Muni-cipal Airport. Only one bid was submitted for the purchase of $10,000 revenue re-venue bonds to provide financing financ-ing for the construction of the golf course. The bid was for an interest of five percent (5) and was submitted byb First Security Securi-ty Bank. However, the bids carried car-ried provisions that were not In keeping with the call for bids that was issued and the bid was rejected, according to Mayor Ku-men Ku-men Gardner. Council authorized Mayor Gardner and City Attorney J. Harlan Burns to meet with the Painted Hills Country Club to work out details for an acceptable accepta-ble plan. Six bids for construction of a new runway and other Improvements Improve-ments at the Municipal Airport had been opened the previous week and a low bid submitted by W. W. Clyde and Co. of Sprlngville accepted subject to qualification of the bidder. It was discovered following the opening of bids that the two low bids submitted were in error. Clyde bid was for $306,019.42. Second low bid, submitted by L. A. Young and Sons of Richfield was in the amount of $312,736.80. Following consideration by the council, both the low and next low bids were rejected and the third low bid of $366,266.67 submitted sub-mitted by Whiting Bros. Construction Con-struction Co. of Las Vegas, Nev., was accepted. Mayor Gardner pointed out that the acceptance of the bid was made pending acceptance of the bid by both the Federal Aviation Avi-ation Agency and the Utah Aero-nautical Aero-nautical Commission, who will cooperate on the project Officials of the FAA have indicated in-dicated that matching federal funds for 50 percent of the project pro-ject would be made available only to the extent of the low bid submitted by the W. W. Clyde Construction firm. Further study of the matter Is now being made to reject all bids and issue a second call for bids in order to get full qualification and participation from the FAA. Under terms of the agreement, FAA will cooperate to the extent ex-tent of 62 percent of the project. The Utp.h Aeronautical Commis-Ion Commis-Ion will participate for 50 percent of the remaining cost of the project pro-ject leaving Cedar City Corpora- tlon responsible for the other 50 percent 19 percent of the overall project The engineer's estimate for the project was $419,235.35.
