Show Democrats Agree On District Senator Nominee As a result of action taken this week by the Iron County Democratic Demo-cratic committee it seems certain cer-tain that the State Senator from the 11th Senatorial District will be a Washington county man. The district comprises Washington Washing-ton and Iron counties. Sometime ago the Republicans of the two counties reached an agreement that the party candidate candi-date for senator would be a Washington coun'y man, and this week the Democrats of the two counties took the same action. ac-tion. Under an agreement of long standing it was Washington county's turn for the Republican senatorial nomination, but under a similar agreement in the Democratic Dem-ocratic party, the Senate candidate candi-date this year should have come from Iron county. A committee representing the Iron County Democratic Central commitee, met recently with a similar group from Washington county and agreed not only to support a Washington county man, but also selected the man they would support. The Washington Wash-ington county party leaders were perfectly willing to abide by the agreement and let Iron county name the candidate, but a unanimous unani-mous decision was reached at the meeting to support a Washington Washing-ton county man. Ellis J. Pickett, who has served as District attorney of the Fifth Judicial district, and a prominent and active party worker, was designated as the party choice for the position, and in all probability prob-ability will receive the nomination. nomina-tion. Of course, the law provides that any individual may file for the nomination, or a group of party members can file for a candidate. can-didate. However, there is very little chance of anyone opposing Mr. Pickett for the nomination in the Democratic party. Orval Hafen, St. George attorney attor-ney has been announced as the Republican party choice for the nomination. : The Iron county ' committee that participated in the decision was composed of G. O. Larson, Rex Harris, Clinton Milne of Cedar Ce-dar City, and Marvin Graff and Watson Adams of Parowan. They filed a report of their action with the coun'y central committee Monday and received unanimous approval of the action. |
