Show Boulder City, Nevada Team Emerges Victor In Annual Three-day Women's Soitball Meet St. George and Boulder City, New teams continued to dominate domin-ate play in the Southern Utah Women's Softball tournament held at Cedar City last week. The Texaco Service team from Boulder City walked off with top honors in the fifth annual tournament tour-nament after tipping the Ricky Mountain Service team of St. George, last year's champion, in the championship battle Saturday Satur-day night by a score of 11 to 10. The final standings at the end of the three-day meet found Boulder City in first place, Rocky Mountain Service, second; Bie-derman's Bie-derman's Ranch, Cedar City, third; Milt's Ciicus Lounge, Cedar Ce-dar City, fourth; Thornton Drug, Cedar City, fifth, and the Club 93, Caliente, Nevada team sixth. Trophies were awarded to each of the teams with the Southern Utah Power Company donating the first place trophy. Other donors, don-ors, for positions in the order listed, list-ed, included Utah Parks Co., Rocky Mountain Service, J. C. Penney Co., Caliente, Nevada 93 Club, Wool worth Co. of Cedar City. Safeway Stores, Cedar City. Receiving the outstanding player award, most coveted prize of the tournament, was Pat Gan-drud, Gan-drud, Boulder City team catcher, who played outstanding ball throughout the three-day meet. Has Tough Battle The boulder City team won easily in the first round, defeating defeat-ing Delta by a score of 17 to 0, but had a tough battle in the second round, eliminating Bieder-man's Bieder-man's Ranch from the championship champion-ship race by the narrow margin of 3 to 0. This game was the only tight contest in the tournament tourna-ment other than the championship champion-ship battle between Boulder City and St. George, and a lOto 9 victory vic-tory for Thornton Drug over the Caliente team in the first round. Rocky Mountain Service won its first game from Milt's Circus Cir-cus Lounge by a 21 to 4 margin, and then advanced to the title game by a 20 to 2 win over Thornton Drug. Biederman's Ranch won its final fi-nal game, 23 to 7 from Thornton Drug to gain third place after having won from Brook I awn Creamery, Delta, by a 17 to 1 margin, before falling before the championship Nevada squad. Milt's Circus Lounge trimmed the Caliente team IS to 4. after having lost to the St. George team in the opening round. At the close of the tournament, players, officials and sponsors voted to schedule the tournament tourna-ment again next year, and ex tended Mrs. Fred (Tillie) Bie-derman, Bie-derman, sponsor, a rousing vote of thanks for her efforts in promoting pro-moting the annual event. |
