Show "Action" Should Replace "Talk" Week after week we hear much talk about the juvenile delinquency and what should be done to direct the activities activi-ties of our youth toward wholesome recreation so that their energy will not be expended on mischief. But we see too little real action in putting the programs into effect. As the summer months approach and schools close, the opportunity to do something for the young people of Cedar City to keep them pleasantly and profitably occupied occu-pied is thrust upon those interested in the youth. Much has been done by the city and civic organizations in providing pro-viding recreation facilities for young and old, and a city recreation supervisor will again be on the job this year. However, it takes more than the building of ball fields and parks, etc. What is needed now is leadership, and the willingness of individuals to devote part of their time working with the young people. A baseball diamond has been provided by the city and the Chamber of Commerce, and finances have been made available through the American Legion and the Ford Motor company to organize a junior baseball team. But nothing can be done unless two or three individuals are willing to take the time to go out onto the field and organize or-ganize and train the kids who want to participate. The Lions club has developed a fine lighted softball field on the new city park, and many more boys could enjoy this recreation and be kept occupied in wholesome sport, if a few adults would just put some time and effort into organizing teams and training players. The facilities are available, the kids are anxious to play, but nothing will happen until the proper leadership is provided and until groups or individuals interested in the welfare of the young people, show a willingness to really work for that welfare. A little action will accomplish much more than a lot of talk, and it is time that the talk be replaced by action. |
