Show Athletic Association Fails To Solve Basketball Scehdule Although sports writers and coaches of the Salt Lake City and Ogden area have been extremely critical of the recent action taken by principals and superintendents1 of the Region Six ln abandoning 1 the, regular schedule of basketball league games, members of the rep-' resentative council of the Utah' High School Athletic association,1 meeting In Salt Lake City Satur-j day, failed to decide definitely whether, or not the state tourna-' ment will be held this year. Everyone is anxious to continue arjtb the competitive athletic pre-' gram, but transportation problems, particularly in the outlying areaa' of the state, resulting from the gas-1 ollne rationing and congestion on public carriers, will make it ex-J tremely difficult to "Carry On." Although most of the representatives representa-tives at the meeting Saturday were anxious to continue lift program,' a decision was reached to refer the milter back to the six athletic regions re-gions before taking final action. Regional meeings attended by superintendents, principals and coaches will be held to consider Uie problem carefully with either another an-other representative council meeting meet-ing or a mall ballot being conducted to get the final decision. The action act-ion is to be completed within a month. The move came following an announcement an-nouncement by Representative H. O. Burton of the State Superintendents' Superinten-dents' association that the superintendents superin-tendents had voted against holding the annual March classic, 27 to 5, in a questionnaire submitted recently. re-cently. In the meantime, Coach Mont Bailey, with full support from Principal lanthua Wright, is drilling drill-ing his Cedar high school team to carry on as much of a program as possible, and hoping that a plan will be worked out whereby the league schedule can be reestablished reestablish-ed and carried out. - |
