Show Volume of Xmas Mail Increases During the Christmas holiday sea-son sea-son the volume of mall - Increases approximately 200 percent according to Postmaster Gilbert L. Janson. Post offices will make every effort to handle these Christmas mails without delay, but 'this will be possible pos-sible only with the cooperation of the public. Therefore, to assure delivery de-livery of presents, cards, and letters by Christmas Day. the public should shop and mail early. Gifts, greetings, greet-ings, and letters should be mailed now for all out-of-town point. Under Un-der existing abnormal conditions this will give them no more than ample time to reach their destination destina-tion by Christmas with certainty. All greeting cards for local delivery deliv-ery should be mailed at least ten days before Christmas In order to avoid the usual congestion the last week before Christmas. Compliance with the following suggestions will greatly aid the post office and assure the prompt handling hand-ling of the mall: Pack articles carefully In strong durable containers. Wrap parcels securely, using strong paper and heavy twine, but do not seal them except when bearing a printed label or indorsement, reading: "Contents, merchandise Postmaster: this parcel par-cel may be opened for postal Inspection Inspec-tion If necessary", together with name and address of sender, as sealed parcels not so labeled or Indorsed In-dorsed are subject to postage at the letter rate. The name and address of the sender may be handwritten or typewritten on the label. Books must have the edges well protected with stiff materinl and be packed in a wooden or strong double-faced, corrugated Ilberboard box. Articles easily broken or crushed must be securely packed and crated or boxed. Use liberal quantities of excelsior or like material In, around, and between the articles and the outside container. Olassware, fragile toys, or crockery must be packed so as to prevent the escape of particles or pieces if broken in transit. Articles Arti-cles easily broken or damaged must be plainly marked "Fragile:' No parcel Improperly packed or wrapped wrap-ped may be Insured. Parcels containing perishable' at-tides at-tides shall be marked "Perishable" and packed In suitable containers, according to contents. Articles likely .o spoil within the time reasonably required for delivery will not be accepted ac-cepted for mailing. Use special-delivery stamps to hasten delivery. Addresses should be complete, with house number and name of street, poj. office box, or rural route number and must be typed or plainly plain-ly written with ink. Under no condition con-dition should mall be addressed with a lead pencil A return address should be placed in the upper left corner of every piece of mall. If a tag la used, the address and return address should also be written on the wrapper for ue If the tag Is lost, and a copy of the address should be Inclosed Inside the parcel.
