Show Schools And P. T. A. Plan Rubber Footwear Exchange Monday, December 14, will mark the beginning of a state-wide drive by the Office of Price Admln'tra-tlon, Admln'tra-tlon, the Public Schools and the Parent Teacher Association, to insure in-sure maximum effective use of children's rubber footwear now in the hands of consumers, Mrs. J. A. Lundell, President of the Cedar City P. T. A. announced today. "It is believed," Mrs. Lundell said "that many families in this area have rubbers and galoshes that the children have out-grown and that no longer fit any member of the family. In this campaign, we are urging all families to go through their closets, attics, and basements for rubber footwear which can be taken by the children to their schools, where the rubbers and galoshes ga-loshes will be assembled and distributed distri-buted to children they will fit." "This program is a part of the nation-wide rubber conservation drive and is intended, also, to assist In the anti-inflation program of the nation," Mrs. Lundell pointed out. "Since Inflation Is essentially a shortage of supplies, the Office of Price Administration is doing everything every-thing in its power to be sure that maximum use Is made of all existing exist-ing supplies of consumer goods In order to redu:e the demand for scarce commodities as much as possible." pos-sible." While the campaign is essentially a conservation rather than a salvage sal-vage program, the P. T. A. president urged that all odd or worn out rubbers rub-bers and galoshes as well as serviceable service-able ones should be sent in since odd rubbers which cannot be mated as well as those which cannot be repaired re-paired will be turned over to the local salvage committee. The campaign to have rubber footwear foot-wear brought into the grade and junior ju-nior high schools will begin on Monday, Mon-day, December 14 and continue through priday, December 18. Children Child-ren will bring the articles to their teachers who will turn them over to the local Parent Teacher Association. Asso-ciation. The P. T. A. will have charge of sorting, cleaning, mating, and repairing the footwear. The redistribution re-distribution will take place when the children return to school after Christmas vacation. "In so far as possible, children wittfout Droteotive footwear who bring in articles which are too small for them to use will be given a pair to fit them. There can be no guarantee guar-antee of this direct exchange, however how-ever since there Is no way of being sure all needed sizes will be turned In,'' Mrs Lundell continued. The purpose of the campaign is to avoid any unnecessary demand for rubber footwear. It is not in any way connected with relief or charity. char-ity. Everyone is urged to participate wholeheartedly In the program as a war activity to save rubber and help prevent Inflation. Householders who have no children child-ren are asked to send their rubber footwear which Is not now being used to the schools with neighbor children. |
