Show B. A. C. Vocational Day Revival Interests High School Students The revival of Vocational Day at the Branch Agricutural College, held Saturday for the first time since the beginning of the war, attracted the attention of high school students and faculties to the extent Its future success is assured. All school representatives indicated participation can be expected each year, with vocational students looking forward to the event as the-gala the-gala day of each school year. More than a dozen schools of Southern Utah and Nevada en:er-ed en:er-ed 350 students In several fields of the dayi activities and contests. High schools represented were Delta. Beaver. Kanab, Hurricane. Millard High of Fillmore, Milford. Woodward High of St. George, Cedar City. Parowan, and Valley High or Ordervllle, all or Utah. Nevada was represented by Moapa Valley High o Overton, and Virgin Valley High of Bunkervllle. The largest single field of contestants con-testants was In Agriculture where more than 125 students vied for top honors In stock, poultry and crop Judging contests. The visitors were given active demonstrations de-monstrations In homemaklng by the Branch College Staff and students, and the morning progrcm was highlighted by a discussion of Applied Art by Mary L. Bastow, head of the c0Hege art department ' Later In the dav the visiting Homn Economics girls presented a fashion show in ths college auditorium which proved to be the center of attraction for a large percentage of the people on the campus. The B. A. C. Home Economics Club presented pre-sented each visiting girl In the department de-partment with a corsage. The Business Department fea-turel fea-turel contests in Bookkeeping. Shorthand, and Type. Of Interest to many or the visiting visit-ing students was the demonstrations demonstra-tions held In the college shops. The Industrial Arts Department had prepared a variety or exhibits and r'emnnstratlons which allowed the visiting students to watch certain phases or vocational endeavor underway. un-derway. Demonstrations were held In arc and acteylcne welding, body and render work, valve grinding, . paint shop techniques, etc. At 2 p. m. the students were entertained en-tertained with a program presented by the student body or the B.A.C. The program featured a radio skit by the Radio Production Clann. Instrumental In-strumental music by the Halver-son Halver-son String Ensemble, and numbers by the B A. C. Girls Trio. The day's activities were climaxed climax-ed with a gaa matinee. |
